Who we are

Kunphen Residential School is the first of its kind in Kalaktang circle, West Kameng District. It works towards imparting education in the field of Buddhist philosophy, Language and Literature (Bhoti, Hindi and English, Science, Mathematics), indigenous techniques in paper making, traditional handicrafts and other traditional skills. Besides, instruction in Social Science, Western Science and Mathematics is also imparted for blending of traditional wisdom with modern system of national education. The medium of instruction is both, English and Bhoti.
West Kameng and Tawang District is situated in the backward, tribal and border area resided by the Buddhist minorities and hence, students are also recruited from these sections only. Hence, they may be provided with special assistance for their educational and cultural upliftment in the spirit of our constitution.

School curriculum

Our main objectives are the following:

  1. To offer opportunity to learn to those that are the most unprivileged and downtrodden
  2. To offer education to novice monks with a solid grounding in their tradition cultural heritage.
  3. To inculcate awareness for ecological balance and preservation of natural resources and cultural heritage.
  4. To impart training in traditional handicrafts

Level of schooling in this school is as follows:

a. Primary (Cls-KG to V) 5 years

b. Middle (Cls-VI to VIII) 3 years

Course contents have been designed suitably and these include the teaching of the following subjects:

a. Bhoti, English and Hindi Languages

b. Science, Mathematics and Social Science

c. Buddhist Philosophy, Traditional Handicrafts and Fine Art

d. Meditation
