About the area

Monyul, comprising of Tawang and West Kameng districts is situated on the western fringe of Arunachal Pradesh. Situated in the outer belt of the state the Monyul has remained quite isolated and thus, self-contained till the recent times. Its interaction with the mainstream of the nation has been very nominal. Cultural tradition and lifestyle of this region has been shaped by the mountains and other natural elements and physiographical features acting as barriers in contacts with the outside world. The growth and development of traditional education in these areas depended upon the monastery where very few people got the opportunity to get maximum traditional education.

This gloomy situation of literacy in this region makes it evident that these two districts are lagging behind the other districts of Arunachal Pradesh and take into consideration the development of educational infrastructure in West Kameng and Tawang district for inclusive growth of this backward, hilly, tribal and border area. However, hopes are there since the desire for acquiring formal education has been growing tremendously since decadal growth rate of literacy is quite high. Keeping this objective in mind a substantial project for development of school education along with cultural moorings for students of West Kameng and Tawang District, Arunachal Pradesh in particular is the need of the hour.
